On September 2-3 an ETF delegation took part in the FISO seminar organised by the ATS training organisation Entry Point North in Malmö (Sweden).
60 FIS colleagues attended from around 15 countries. This two-days seminar was opened with a first introduction where every participant was invited to present the state of play of FIS and AFIS in his country, highlighting all the differences but also the common problems in their jobs.
Then a pilot had the opportunity to present the crew perspective on operations in FIS airspace dealing with information service, which was followed by a very interesting exchange of views for everyone. The agenda was also focused on Safety, airport operations and radar technical evolutions.
On the last day, a rulemaking officer (ATM/ANS Regulations) from EASA came to present the latest evolutions of the regulatory framework around FIS. ETF is currently the only european organisation presenting the interests of flight information services officers at European level, taking part in the drafting process of the future EU regulation on Air Traffic Services organized by the european aviation safety agency (EASA).
This regulation will affect and possibly standardize the provision of FIS, and it's ETF will to actively promote setting competence and training requirements for flight information service officers whether at aerodromes or in centers. This seminar was an opportunity for ETF to share experiences and learn more about the situation of flight information services around the world, meeting colleagues from Europe and beyond.
